Colorado Considers New Regulations for Kratom Sales

Colorado is taking steps to add new safeguards for kratom, an herbal supplement that has seen rising popularity in recent years. Lawmakers have passed a bill that would require kratom products to be kept behind the counter and limit sales to those 21 and older. The proposed rules also mandate warning labels with dosage information, drug interaction details, and advisories for pregnant women. In addition, the legislation restricts synthetic ingredients and limits the high-potency component 7-OH to 2%.

These new measures represent the first statewide guidelines for kratom in Colorado, although they are less extensive than the original proposals. The bill was scaled back to address concerns about regulatory costs. Attention now turns to Governor Jared Polis, who has previously supported efforts to develop safety regulations for kratom.
