It’s also a popular social drink among men and plays a role in village religious ceremonies. Women use it as a household remedy for common ailments, while men consume it to enhance work productivity.
However, recent trends indicate a shift. In rural areas, kratom is being used to alleviate opioid withdrawal, while urban youths are creating adulterated kratom cocktails for euphoria. This shift raises concerns about the potential health risks and the need for more scientific research into kratom’s effects and benefits.
The study underscores the importance of objective trials to validate the self-reported benefits of kratom and calls for more scientific investigations to understand its therapeutic potential fully. As kratom use evolves, the study highlights the need for a balanced approach in understanding and regulating this traditional plant.
