Missouri House Committee Advances Kratom Consumer Protection Act

The Missouri House Emerging Issues Committee has unanimously approved the Kratom Consumer Protection Act (HB 1037) in a 13-0 vote, marking a significant step toward regulating kratom products in the state. The proposed legislation aims to enhance consumer safety by establishing strict guidelines for the sale, labeling, and contents of kratom, a plant-based product often used for pain relief and anxiety management.

If enacted, the bill would require kratom products to display accurate labeling of their active compounds, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, while banning sales to individuals under 21. It also prohibits adulterated or synthetic kratom and limits the potency of 7-hydroxymitragynine to 2%. Violators could face fines, misdemeanor charges, or civil lawsuits from harmed consumers.

With bipartisan support, the bill now moves to the full House for further consideration. For more details, visit The Marijuana Herald.
